Fly Tying Lessons

Join Orvis Fly Designer, Dave Hise, as he reveals (some of) the tricks of the fly tying trade! Utilizing over 25 years of fly tying experience, Dave aims to teach the basics of fly tying; useful techniques, how to use specific materials, and how to efficiently tie the major groups of flies (streamers, nymphs, wets, dries, and egg patterns). These lessons will allow you to make informed decisions on the equipment and materials that you will need to get started (and continue) in this fine art. Having trouble with a specific technique? Intermediate and advanced fly tying lessons are also available. Vise, tools, and materials are included throughout the entire class.

Group lessons will be offered again in Winter of 2009.

Pursuing Giants

Join us at Casters Fly Shop on Saturday February 20th, 2010 for a special event. We will be teaming up with Orvis and the Northwestern Chapter of Trout Unlimited to bring you Landon Mayer. Landon is a fly fishing guide in the Colorado Springs, Colorado area where he calls the South Platte his home. He has been guiding and pursuing GIANTS in this region for the past twelve years. His techniques and secrets for pursuing these massive quarry can be found in the book titled, How to Catch the Biggest Trout of your Life (2007, Wild River Press), and DVDs including Landing the Trout of Your Life (2007, Mad Trout Media), and Weapons of Bass Production (2008, Mad Trout Media).

Landon holds a true passion for the sport of fly fishing. His enthusiastic flare is reflected in the many speaking engagements he presents to anglers. You will walk away learning something new, and have a better visual understanding of what you just learned. These are not your average text-filled lectures; they are action packed with visuals that will make you feel like you are there on the water. April Vokey

Join us April 3rd and 4th. We (April Vokey and Casters Fly Shop) will be hosting an all inclusive Women's Fly Fishing Weekend at the private "trophy" waters in southwestern Virginia. This will be a great workshop for women looking to meet other female fishing buddies, as well as women looking to partake in unique and unforgettable entertainment.

April is a world renowned fly fishing guide and instructor who lives in Chilliwack, B.C., where she spends most of her days on the local rivers hunting for wild steelhead with her Spey rod. When not guiding or chasing steel, April travels around the world to host schools and retreats. Package price for this retreat is $625 per angler, which includes instruction/guiding, lunch, dinner, and lodging for Saturday April 3rd, and breakfast, instruction/guiding, and lunch for the second day, Sunday April 4th. A $300 deposit is required to reserve a spot, which is non-refundable unless we can fill the spot. Dont hesitate; maximum of 6 anglers and 4 spots have been reserved.
